Valentine's Day Swap...Sent

Last month I signed up for the Oh Strumpets Valentine's Day Swap. I'm so glad I did because I really branched out with the type of crafts I usually do. I'm not really a hearts and pink kind of girl. This gave me the perfect excuse to look for fun heart fabric and all kinds of pink and red felt.

I knew right away that I wanted to make a bunting for my partner, Erin. Not for any particular reason other than, who the hell doesn't love a good bunting?! While at Joann's I found these two coordinating glittery heart fabrics. Although the fabrics themselves are kind of busy, I felt just the fabric by itself would be a little boring. I decided to cut out some hearts from that sticky backed felt to add. I originally went a little far and added white hearts with red X's and O's on the other flags but it was WAY too much so I got rid of those! I also used some pink thread and a zigzag stitch to attach it all together.

Also, while I was at Joann's I milled around in the area with Valentine's Day decorations to find some other fun tidbits to send my partner. I saw some cute little heart ornaments. They were a bit on the country clutter side though. You know what I mean? With the burlap, red gingham fabric and twine? It wasn't my taste but it gave me an idea...I could make my own stuffed heart ornaments!! I did a tutorial yesterday if you want to make some of your own! These are the three I sent Erin, I hope she likes them!

This was such a fun swap. Like I said, I branched out of my so called "comfort zone" and used different types of fabrics and themes than I normally would have. It was nice and refereshing. Plus now I have a few of the heart ornaments of my own!
I can't wait to see what Erin made for me!!

A special thanks to Becky and Olivia for organzing this awesome swap together over on Oh Strumpets!

My own Buntings!

Hello all, happy hump day!

After making the buntings that I am giving away (still time to enter here!!) I wanted some of my own! I loved where I hung the Christmas Buntings I had made and that wall has looked so blank ever since I took them down.

I wanted to make ones with the same yellow fabric as the ones I'm giving away because I loved it so much! Major bummer though, they didn't have anymore when I went back to Joanns =( I did however find this lovely flower fabric that just screams spring! I also had the perfect dusty rose colored yarn to make the flower accents and found these buttons in my huge stash that looked good too.

And this is their new home!

I'm so happy with them. The way I have the tv stand and little night table (not pictured but it is right at the feet of the lamp on the right) on that wall, nothing really looks good hanging there. It's such an awkward space but having buntings up there really pulls everything together! I think I want to do a "My Apt. Tour" for you guys so you can see how my whole place is set up. It's tiny but I love it and I think I have made it very homey and comfy!

Have a great day!

Giveaway!!

So my loverly friends of blogland I decided that is about time I show you some gratitude by giving away a handmade bunting by ME to YOU!

I don't think I have said it enough but this blog really makes me so happy and means a lot to me! It gives me motivation to keep crafting, reading, set and accomplish goals AND the best part...I have met so many wonderful friends!! I just want you all to know how much it means to me that you take time out of your own life to take a peek into mine, seriously...it means so much to me!!

I saw this fabric at Joanns when it was still winter and I fell in love. It made me so happy and long for spring!! I loved it so much that I didn't even really want any other fabric incorporated. I did look but I just wasn't happy with the way any other fabrics looked together. After I sewed it all together I felt it was missing something though or a bit plain maybe. I found some adorable green leaf buttons but they didn't really show up too well with the green bias tape I used. Soooo....after some thinking it dawned on me CROCHETED FLOWERS, duh!! I have a butt load of buttons handed down to me from my mom and I found a bunch of different yellows ones that I used as the centers. I love these buntings so much, they are so springy and wonderful to look at. I made two of them so TWO of you can win!!!

All you have to be is a follower of my blog with either Google or Bloglovin and leave a comment telling me what you have planned for the month of May, it's that simple! You can earn extra entries by posting about this giveaway somewhere else, your blog, twitter (mention @jamietoohey), facebook, wherevs just so long as you leave a separate comment and a link it'll count.
So my darlings...I figure there is no better way to start the weekend than with a giveaway!!
I'll pick two winners at random next Friday, May 6th (I can't freaking believe it will be May already!!)

Good Luck!!

"Bobbing Along..."

First off...welcome new friends! I've had it in the back of my mind that when I reached 50 followers I would have another giveaway and somehow you all snuck up on me =D
So now I will be thinking of something to make for you! I really want a new springy bunting like the one I made for Christmas. Would that be lame if I gave away the same sort of thing as I did last time?
Hmmm...my thinking cap is on!

Anyway...did anyone see the Supermoon on Saturday? Holy Moly it was beautiful!! There wasn't a cloud in the sky here in PA so we had a stunning view of it all night!

On Sunday when I was looking up pictures of it online I learned something so silly that I wanted to share with everyone!
Ever since we were little, my sister and I have been obsessed with the movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Have you ever seen it?! It is AMAZING! I seriously watch it like once a month still. The spell that Ms. Price recites to try to turn people into toads (but they always end up turning into a nice, white rabbit) is "Filigree, apogee, pedigree, perigee!" I know what Filigree and Pedigree mean and I always just assumed the other words were some weird Britsh thing, haha! WELL! Turns out apogee and perigee refer to the distance from the Earth to the moon. Apogee is the furthest point from the earth. Perigee is the closest point to the earth and is when the moon appears larger, supermoon!
So...just a little fun face that I thought I would share, I love when I learn weird little things like that!

Have a lovely second day of Spring!

My First Giveaway!

What happened to that 6th bunting? I'm sure you're asking yourself!

Well...I decided since I have won two blog giveaways, it was about time I returned the love.

So...
I have another bunting that I made, with little snowflake buttons as an added detail that you can have for your very own!
It is 4 1/2 feet long and the triangles are about 8 inches long.

All you have to do to win this is be a follower of my blog and post a comment here telling me your favorite Christmas movie. You can even get an extra entry if you mention this giveaway on your blog with a link to it in the comment you leave me.
Yup, it's that easy peasy!
I will pick the winner next Wednesday 12/8/10.

This is the exact bunting I will mail you.

Good Luck!

Christmas Buntings!

I finished a bunch of buntings last night!!
I started them earlier this week and I apparenlty bought WAY more fabric than I needed, I had so much that I was able to make 6!!
I have two hanging on the blank wall in my living/bedroom and I am so in love with it. I also have one hanging on the banister in my hallway (I could not get a good picture of it because the lighting is horrible in my apartment, especially in the little hallway!)
I brought two into work, one for my cubicle and one for my manager.
I haven't hung them up at work yet, they are sitting on my desk folded up and two people told me they thought I had underwear on my desk!! Weirdos!

Here are some pictures...

I have little snowflake buttons that I think I am going to add to them, just for a little extra something =)

Buntings!

So I know it hasn't even been Thanksgiving yet but I am already thinking of ways to decorate my cute little studio apartment for Christmas. Of course I want to make everything so I guess that's why I am looking at things already!

Right now I am loving buntings! I had never even heard of or seen a bunting until I started blogging, everybody has them. I totally see why, they are ADORABLE! I have this big blank wall in my apartment that a holiday bunting would look perfect on. Now I'm just waiting for a coupon to Joanns so I can stock up on some holiday fabrics to make my own.

These are all the ones I have been inspired by...

Aren't these all just so cute?! Have you made any of your own buntings? They look pretty easy, I think I could make one or two in an afternoon. Now I can't wait for that coupon!!
