Halloween...Finally!

I know it's a few weeks late but because of the stupid snow storm we got over Halloween weekend we had to postpone our party for a week. Saturday we got all dressed up and headed out to Jersey for the 3rd Annual Rolak (Shannon and JP's) Halloween Party.
I was a skeleton, Jeremy was the Tooth Fairy and my sister was a Racoon (she has a thing for woodland creatures).
I cut out and sewed these bones onto the shirt and pants, I even sewed the cracks in my pelvis and attached a screw to the ankle where I still have one in me LOL!! I had so much fun painting my face, I followed a youtube video done by Letzmakeup. Painting my face is one of my favorite parts of Halloween. Please ignore my blue socks!! I don't have any black ones =/

This is Jeremy as the tooth fairy, this was fully his idea and the fact that he wore that tutu all night was pretty amazing!! I made that whole thing out of over 5 yards of 4 different fabrics and 15 yards of 2 different ribbons. It's so pretty in real life but I have no idea what to do with it now!

I hope you all had an awesome Halloween and now I am looking forward to Thanksgiving!!

Happy Halloween!!!

Unfortunately we didn't get to dress up this year (yet). As you may have heard or experienced for yourself, the Northeast US got a freaking snow storm this past weekend. I truly thought it was going to be a bunch of hype but I was wrong, dead wrong! Friday night I went to bed pretty late and it was clear as could be out so I was sure everything woukd be fine. However, I woke up Saturday morning to snow...those big, thick, wet snowflakes. The main issue concerning the storm was that with all the leaves on the trees and all this wet snow on top of it, branches and power lines might come down and people would be without power, ugh!
Jeremy came over after work around 12:30 that afternoon. We were eating hoagies and watching The Crazies and talking about how much we wanted it to clear up for the party. Our costumes are awesome, I spent a lot of time on them and the pumpkin I carved was sure to win the contest! While we were talking, as soon as I mentioned that snow and leaf statement the freaking power went out!!! It was a little after 1:00. Jeremy needed to take a nap since he went in to work at 6:00 that morning so I just laid in bed and read all while hoping the party wouldn't be cancelled. But a couple hours later I got a text that the party was cancelled :(
Around 4:30 the power came back on so I quick jumped in the shower. Soon as I had the shampoo on my head, it went out again!! I had enough hot waiter to finish my shower but I have no windows in my bathroom so it was pitch black in there! Jeremy brought in a bunch of candles and took the shower curtain off the rings but kept the clear liner on so I could see. There was also enough hot water for him to shower but I couldn't blow dry my hair! I towel dried it as best I could but I was still freezing!! We were both hungry and our friends who still had power invited us over to play games. Across town still had power so we went to a bar over there, ate and then went to our friends house. Right before we got there half a tree fell on their house!!
Oh and before we left my place Jeremy was cleaning off his car when this chic asked to borrow his phone because her phone died and she needed to get a cab to come take her to work or she'd have to walk...with her little 2 year old daughter!! Being such a good guy Jeremy asked where she worked and offered to drive her. It was literally down the street from where we were going but even if it wasn't we would have taken her, it was horrible out and no cabs were answering.
The bar was packed because so many people were without power. We had fun playing games at Stephen's house and then around 9 we went to another bar to watch the fights. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before but...I love UFC!! Watching a bunch of dudes beat the piss out of each other, it's fantastic!! Every month they have fights on pay-per-view so we have to go to the bar to watch it.
I really hoped I'd have power by time we got home but no dice. It was freezing cold in my apt so we lit a bunch of candles and put them on the coffee table next to my bed, it was like sleeping next to a roaring fire Haha!!! It was also one time I was thankful to have a boyfriend who's like a furnace.
We woke up to no power so we decided to go to the diner for breakfast (usually we make breakfast Sunday mornings). The first diner had no power and was closed, 4 others all across town had 45 minute to an hour waits. Cracker Barrel told us it would be 2 hours and 10 minutes and Dunkin Donuts was fresh out of food!! It was complete mayhem!! Finally we tried Manhattan Bagel, their power was out but they could make breakfast sandwiches on their grill still!! We had to eat in the dark but we didn't care! Then we milled around at a giant indoor garage sale to kill a few hours. When we got home, still no power! Jeremy went home to check on his place and pets (he has 2 snakes and a rat) and I just got back in bed and read and slept a bit.
Around 9:00 I was hungry and wanted to see who had power and who didn't. Let me tell you, driving around town with no lights in any houses or businesses and cops directing traffic is kind of creepy. Luckily Wawa had power so I got a sandwich and sat in my car to warm up in the heat, ate and charged my phone and ereader. The electric company said I wouldn't have power til 10:30 Monday night so I just went home, put on lots of layers, tons of blankets on the bed, lit a bunch of candles, got back in bed and read some more. I have no idea what time the power came back on but I fell asleep around 1:30am and it was still out but I woke up around 5am sweating bullets!!
So all in all I was without power for at least 36 hours and the Halloween party was cancelled. Hopefully it will be rescheduled so we can sport our sweet costumes!!
Thanks for reading this novel if you did and I leave you with a picture of (what I think would be our award winning) pumpkin!!

Happy Halloween!!

Cross Stitch Surprise Received!

Hi all!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Mine was awesome, Jeremy took me for Hibachi and to see 'Insidious' on Saturday night. That movie scared the ever loving crap out of me, I screamed out loud multiple times!!

Also, before we left I checked my mail and had this wonderful package waiting for me! I am so, so thrilled with this whole Swap-Bot experience. I will most definitely be doing it again!
So...like I mentioned before, this swap was a surprise and totally up to the sender so she picked these ideas from what I put in my profile. She went with the Halloween theme.
This first one is so adorable! I couldn't get them to show up in the picture but there are tiny red beads for eyes on the spider!!

These stacked pumpkins are so adorable!

Last but not least, she sent me an extra!! A crow perched on a sheep and it is my absolute favorite! All the designs the stitches make are awesome!!

I am so happy that these two fit perfectly in some of the frames I picked up at the VNA sale last weekend!! I am going to pick up a tiny embroidery hoop for the ghost.

My partner completely spoiled me and I am now officially in love with Swap-Bot!

In other swap news, I am more than half way done with my Craftster granny square swap which I am super happy about. I tend to leave things to the last minute but I started these squares right away. I think I'll even be sending fairly early, woot!
Have a great Monday my dears!

Halloween!!

YAY!!
I freaking love Halloween!! Seriously, it's my all time favorite holiday and I take it very seriously. Last year I was little dead riding hood and taught myself how to use latex, tissue, face paint and fake blood to create wounds on my face, chest and arm. It was so incredibly fun to do!
So this year I knew I wanted something that I could use this same technique for again.
Freddy Krueger!!! His are burns though so I got to use different colors which was fun.
I had two parties this year to sport this sweet, sweet costume at.
The first was one my sister threw but I was NOT happy with my make up that night. I had a bottle of latex, unopened still in the cardboard and plastic too from last year. But it was almost all dried out so it was a real bastard trying to apply it over the tissue and then paint on top of it. And of course I didn't open it until it was waaaay to late to try and get into one of the costume shops. It kept peeling off, ugh!!
Luckily there weren't many pictures that night, I don't have any.
The second party was at Shannon and JP's house. I bought a new bottle of latex and am really happy with how my face turned out!
These are the supplies I used.

Here is how it looked afterward, I'm so pleased with it!!

Jeremy went as one of my victims so he just wore PJ pants and I slashed up a shirt for him and made it bloody.

Shannon made a scavenger hunt for everyone to do which was so fun!
"Act out a scary movie" (I hate this picture ps)

"Kiss the White Beast"

And heres some more pictures from the night.
All us ladies!

Freddy, Lady Luck and Michael Phelps.

Just so you can understand the size of this costume, JP is normally 6'9" and Jeremy is 6'4". JP has stilts that make him a foot taller, he's one of the Knights who say Ni...gigantic!

I had such a fun Halloween, I can't wait til next year!!

Prompt 22

Journal Prompt 22: Today I want to know what your favorite holiday is!! There are soooo many holidays out there and the cool thing is that they differ depending on where you live, your family, and your religion.

Obviously my favorite Holiday is Halloween. I find it hilarious that after ALL the Halloween talk I have been having over the last week or so this was today's prompt!!

Wanna Make Wednesday

So this week I have had Fall on the brain alot. It started at the Haskell on Sunday and everyone discussing Halloween costumes. I have a few ideas roamin around in my head but nothing is definite yet. Then the coffee at work on Monday was Cinnamon Sticky Bun and it smelled just like Autumn. Today I discovered that I have 9 days left that I can take off this year, not including holidays. I had the brilliant idea that Jeremy and I should take a long weekend in October and go to Salem, MA for some serious Fall Activities!
I asked if he would be interested in going and he said he would but I would have to pick either going to Salem or getting my birthday gift.
Back Story: My birthday is September 28 and Jeremy already has my gift, or at least knows what he's getting me. Which was a pleasant suprise to me when I found out because he's always asking what to get me when it comes to Christmas, Birthdays, etc. and I don't want to tell him. So...he said the gift is so good I "might cry", Jessie agreed with this statement and Liz said I'm going to "looooove it".
So of course I picked my birthday present, Salem will be there next year!

Anyway...Fall and Halloween have been on my brain and I want to start making some stuff for my apartment for the season and I found some great stuff over on Etsy. When I searched "Halloween Pattern" on Etsy I found so many amazing things!!

First off, I had no idea that people made these Primitive dolls. Alot of them are very Country-ish which remind me of my ex's mother's house, she had that whole "Country Cluture" thing going on. Some of these are very creepy though and kind of remind me of a Tim Burton movie. I like these ones and now HAVE to make one.

This Raven is absolutely amazing!

from The Goode Wife of Washington County

I definitely need these bats on my tv stand in the worst way!

made by Homespun Heart Primitives

I also love these 3 Ghosts with the tombstone rubbings on them.

from Sassafras Hill Primitives

I can already see this Haunted House cross stitch hanging in my apartment. I would love to see it on some old faded aida (cross stitch fabric).

from Bella Stitchery (Who also made that sweet Owl cross stitch from last week)

This crocheted skull is absolutely amazing!! It looks pretty advanced for my basic crocheting skills but it's definitely something to strive for!

from the Design Shop

And last but not least, who doesn't need severed fingers laying around the house?! I know I do!!

from CrochetSal

I can't believe it's already August BUT I still can't wait for Fall. It's my favorite time of year!! Hoodies, leaves changing, my birthday, haunted houses, bon fires and Halloween!! What's not to love?!

Prompt 10

Journal Prompt 10: This prompt is all about collections. Do you collect buttons, clothes, shoes, friends, parking tickets, whatever!! Illustrate your collections. This will be fun to look back on someday and see how your collections have grown or have moved on :)

I have alot of random things that I "collect". Anything that has to do with sewing and images of old sewing machines. I hope to one day have an antique Singer that I can keep in my craft room! I also collect halloween decorations...mostly just bats and skulls. Although, I do love the vintage halloween stuff but I don't own anything. I also love vintage pyrex and I like to get mugs from all the different places I've been. Oh and I love all things New Orleans which sort of manifested into a love of the fleur di lis.

Descriptions below...

I took pictures so you can see my favorites of each, I do have a ton more and it was hard to narrow them down but I think I got it!
First is a tea pot that is a sewing table with a Singer style machine on it!!! It belonged to my mom's boyfriend, Dave's mother. She recently moved and when cleaning out here house I found her collection of so many interesting teapots and they said I could have this one. I feel very lucky to have it.
Those little blue owls are actually salt & pepper shakers from the 50's. My sister got them at a bazaar for me =]
It was between this mug and the one I got in New Orleans. This one I got in GA during the first road trip Liz and I took. It's hand made and is painted with a beautiful scene of Colorado, at least that's what the carving on the bottom says.
This is a tattoo on got on the road trip Jeremy and I took last year. I got this in New Orleans the day after Mardi Gras. Jeremy got a crawfish in the shape of a fleur di lis on his shoulder.
The bat is pretty dark but he is so detailed an awesome for just a rubber halloween decoration. He was part of my halloween themed surprise birthday party that Jeremy threw for me last year.
That is a vintage pyrex bowl given to me by my mother. I don't know when she got the set but I remember always making chocolate chip cookies in the big pink one when I was little. This is part of a set of 4 and I love them all but this one I use the most.
And last but certainly not least is my super blingy skull! I got it at Michael's two years ago and I imagine that it is a take off of Damien Hirst's Diamond Skull "For The Love of God"
It was fun looking at all the cool stuff I have ;P
